Autumn Wedding Menus

October 10, 2017

OX Weddings is one of our favourite Oxfordshire magazines, packed full of Oxfordshire wedding inspiration from venues, food, fashion, style, make-up and all things weddings! This month we were asked to share our expertise on the wonderful wedding spaces in Oxford, with a nod to the season when it comes to thinking about Autumn Wedding Menu Inspiration.

Jo Robinson, joint founder of Indulgence Boutique Hospitality was delighted to share her thoughts with OX Weddings and their readers…

“When it comes to wedding venues in Oxford, we adore the sense of grandeur and academic history that the university has to offer and many couples want to mirror this grand elegance within their menu and hospitality experience” says Jo Robinson…

Oxford Weddings

“Oxford has an impossibly romantic feel and we help bring this to life through our menus. We recently catered at The Bodleian Library open evening where the old schools quadrangle was transformed into an Enchanted Wedding Garden Party. It was a truly magical event showcasing one of the oldest and most beautiful libraries in Europe.

Wedding Themes

When it comes to wedding food, if we were asked to create the ultimate wedding menu for an iconic Oxford venue such as the Bodleian, we would initially think about the theme. Autumn is a wonderful time of year to get married, so we would look to incorporate this season in the styling, with an abundance of rich and vibrant colours, atmospheric lighting and a celebratory feel.

Harry Potter Style

Banquet style seating lends itself perfectly to the Bodleian. We call it ‘Harry Potter style dining’ (Harry Potter was filmed here) and it creates a fun, buzzy, feast like atmosphere. We would style the tables with copper and autumn berries adding a touch of gold sparkle here and there. Banquet tables work well for both formal fine dining and as well as relaxed dining.

The long tables work well in accommodating sharing platters, which are a lovely way to get family and friends chatting to each other as they pass the boards down the table.

Seasonal and Local

The perfect menu will always be seasonal and local.

Autumn brings an abundance of colour and a good Autumn wedding menu should reflect that. Autumn canapés could include Locally laid Quails Eggs and a starter of Sinodun Hill Goats Cheese Bon Bons.

Seasonal vegetables  are vibrant and delicious. Autumn vegetables such as artichoke, beetroot, celeriac or squash are fabulous this time of the year – their bright colours simply jump out at you on your dinner plate.

At this time of year the hedgerows are filled with blackberries and elderberries and trees are about to harvest this years crop of apples and pears.

Autumn is a wonderful season ~ full of colour, atmosphere and romance, and we love to reflect this in our wedding food and create the perfect Autumn wedding menu to reflect the season…
